Learning about the Women's Empowerment Principles: A business guide to promoting and committing to Gender Equality in the workplace, marketplace and community
There has been increasing evidence that countries and businesses with higher level of gender equality are more resilient and performs better than their counterparts. With the Covid-19 pandemic now as part of the business and socio-economic context – it has never been more pronounced that gender equality is good for business and society. Investing in women, in their leadership and training and equal opportunity, brings high returns and help shape what is to come – a more equitable and inclusive workplace, marketplace and society at large.
Businesses and companies can use and adapt the Women's Empowerment Principles as a framework to achieve gender equality in their practices and overall operations. It is a set of 7 principles forged and promoted by the UN Global Compact and the UN Women in 2010 to support business leaders and companies providing guidance on how in every step of the way they can contribute to achieving gender equality and reap the benefits for their business bottom-line too.
It is the intention of this learning session to provide businesses and companies information about the Women's Empowerment Principles and at the same time encourage them to take the first step into their commitments by signing the WEPs to become part of a global community that commits to and take action to implement the WEPs for better business performance and achieve a more equitable and inclusive workplace.
The UN Women WeEmpowerAsia Philippines Programme supported by the European Union is pleased to work and partner with the French Chamber of Commerce to co-organize and run this learning session on the WEPs with a shared belief and understanding that this work and learning opportunities is aligned to both its values and programming to promote diversity and inclusion to achieve women's empowerment and gender equality.
