Nordic Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines welcomes 2023 with great opportunities to carry its advocacy in promoting sustainability with business partners and the community. With this, the 8th Sustainability Committee Meeting will focus on ways businesses may support Biofuel and Waste-to-Energy (WtE) initiatives.

Given the increasing population and expanding economy of the Philippines, Filipinos have become aware of the increasing garbage output. As the pandemic hits, the Philippines' garbage situation worsens due to the pile of plastics and medical waste. Thus, the public and private sectors have looked into new technologies and strategies to immediately resolve this decade-long issue. More so, there is a growing demand among local government units to use WtE technology that can augment the existing problems with garbage disposal in major cities. Meanwhile, businesses have begun to look for investment and innovation opportunities in WtE-related ventures. With a better understanding of WtE, the Philippines may obtain the economic benefits of solid waste management, circular economy options, and an alternative power source.

We have invited Mr. Darren Heppner, Founder and CEO of KeystonePartners and Keystone WorldBridge Holdings, Mr. Michael Simonsen, Sales Manager of Product and Upgrades at FLSmidth, and Atty. Angela Edralin-Valencia, Director at Ecoloop, to speak.

Mr. Michael will share the technology that processes the trash materials into fuel to produce cement as a substitute for coal.

Atty. Angela will shed light on the state of the Philippine waste crisis and Ecoloop's role in providing a solution to this. She will also highlight the new EPR Law and the roles and responsibilities of companies in the private sector as part of this law.

A Q&A session will follow each presentation. Afterward, there will be 1 hour facilitated brainstorming session for participants to share their experiences and perspectives relating to biofuel and waste-to-energy.

Does your company advocate to promote waste-to-energy? Do you want to address the global garbage disposal problem at a company level? Then join us in person at IWG Spaces, World Plaza in BGC on January 25, 2023 (Wednesday) from 3:30-6:00 PM, to obtain concrete ideas for how you can promote regulations and best practices for waste-to-energy, with presentations from KeystonePartners, FLSmidth, and Ecoloop.

We usually have between 20-30 attendees representing large companies, e.g., IKEA, AstraZeneca, Globe, Converge, SN Aboitiz Power, Arla Foods, etc.

The Committee is intended for business partners of NordCham, but guests are also accepted. Interested guests are welcome to contact Executive Director, Jesper Svenningsen at js@nordcham.com.ph.
