The topic of the 4th Sustainability Committee meeting will be corporate partnerships with NGOs and local government focused on skills and livelihoods training for disadvantaged communities.

As many are aware, the Philippines is still a developing country with widespread poverty both in rural and urban areas. In Manila alone, the World Bank has identified 2500 slums where families experience low living standards. For the youth in these, and many other, vulnerable communities, access to skills training and livelihoods in the formal sector is a path out of poverty, and this is where companies can have a meaningful impact.

On August 17, our guest speakers will be Rikke Fabrin, CSR Consultant at Artelia Philippines presenting with Jaime Benedicto, Executive Director of the NGO partner Bantu Philippines, as well as Hector Brizuela, Lead of Project RISE at Philippine Transmarine Carriers presenting their project Plastic-Free Starts with Me. Artelia Philippines and Bantu Philippines have a long-term partnership, where Artelia hires youth from the Bantu networks into different roles in their engineering company. They provide the young workers with mentoring to adjust to a formal workplace, which is important for success. Philippine Transmarine Carriers are engaged in a partnership with the Municipality of Balayan, a coastal community in Batangas. The project helps informal waste collectors and youth from disadvantaged communities to get access to upskilling and builds capacity for them to upcycle plastic waste.

Based on their experiences with NGO partnerships, Artelia with Bantu, and Philippine Transmarine Carriers, will be able to share their benefits from the partnerships, the practical aspects of setting up partnerships, and how to work around challenges. This session focuses on SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 4 on Quality Education, as well as SDG 1 on No Poverty and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.

The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session. Afterward, there will be 45 min. brainstorming session for participants to share their learnings and their practices with NGO partnerships for skills and livelihoods.

If your company is looking to become more inclusive and have a meaningful impact for the disadvantaged communities, come join us in person at Spaces, World Plaza in BGC on August 17 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, for a presentation on partnerships for skills and livelihoods with Artelia Philippines and Bantu Philippines, and Philippine Transmarine Carriers.
