The topic of the 5th Sustainability Committee meeting will be on transitioning to renewable energy and how companies can do so in practice.

The Philippines is among the countries most at risk of the negative effects of climate change. Sea level rise, stronger and more frequent typhoons, and rising temperatures will impact businesses and the Filipino people. In 2021, the Philippines committed to reducing 75% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. But how can companies contribute to this goal?

We have invited Mr. Bryan Christopher O. King Kay, Vice President (Strategy and Sustainability) at Converge ICT Solutions, Inc. to speak about Converge ICT's switch to clean energy. Their goals are to reduce their scope 2 GHG emissions by 75% in 2030 and become net zero by 2050, aligning with the targets in the Paris agreement. In practice, they secured clean energy for the company headquarters in Manila in 2021, and in 2022 they secured clean energy for their data center in Clark, Pampanga. Mr. King Kay will speak about the journey and business case to switch to clean energy, as well as the challenges and strategies to further expand the program. The switch to clean energy has been possible through their vendor, First Gen Corporation.

First Gen Corporation services a growing list of clients shifting to green power all over the country and is approved by the DOE as a Renewable Energy Supplier for the Green Energy Options Program (GEOP). Ms. Joanna Tiffany Chloe Kayanan, Power Marketing Manager at First Gen Corporation will co-speak at our meeting and go into depth on the opportunity for other companies to switch to renewable energy, along with the customer journey perspective and regulatory aspects.

The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session. Afterward, there will be a 45 min. brainstorming session for participants to share their experiences and challenges with switching to renewable energy, and a short session where we will decide on future topics for the meetings.
